Hello I’m Carolyn, welcome to my blog. I thought I’d take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and how I came to start the professional decluttering and organising business Room to Flourish.
If someone had said to me on New Year’s Day that by the autumn I would be running my own business, I would have thought that they’d had too much bubbly the night before! These last two years have been an emotional rollercoaster with some wonderful highs: The birth of my grandson, and my son’s wedding to his lovely girl … big smiles all round! The biggest ‘down’ was the death of a family member whose loss had a profound effect on me and really made me stop and think about my own wellbeing and what I wanted to focus on in my life.
I’ve always said that ‘I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up’, and have never felt a real passion for any job I’ve had. This year I’ve felt an urgent ‘need to read’ and kept being attracted to the same topics: Decluttering and organising your home, wellbeing and personal style. Over 70 books later and the penny finally dropped … my subconscious was trying to tell me something! I’ve also had lots of reminders of what it was like spring cleaning with my Gran, and how different the rooms felt after, so much lighter and brighter. These early experiences obviously made a big impression on me and I can honestly say that I love the process of decluttering, bringing order out of chaos and making everything feel calm and organised. It was a bit of a ‘lightbulb moment’!
When it comes to wellbeing and personal style, I would definitely regard myself as ‘work in progress’. Learning what works for me and what doesn’t is an ongoing process of discovery which I am enjoying enormously.
Working with family and friends helping them to declutter and organise their homes to better suit their lifestyles has been a privilege and inspiration for the business, and Room to Flourish was born. What was really interesting was the realisation that people seemed to need to clear the physical stuff before they were able to go on to make the positive changes they wanted to make in their lives (from changing their diet to lose weight, taking up a creative hobby or redecorating). So the act of decluttering and organising seemed to provide individuals with Room to Flourish in a very real sense!
So if you live in the South Wales area and are looking at making changes in your life but don’t know where to start, why not give me a call? After all, everyone deserves Room to Flourish!
